You may occasionally hear references to Jesus’ “scars” or “scarred hands,” especially in Christian songs. However, it’s worth noting that Jesus’ hands never became scarred:
Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:24-28)
Thomas “put his finger into the print of the nails and put his hand into Jesus’ side.” This would not be possible if Jesus’ hands or side had scarred over.
In fact, scars are something that an earthly living body develops in response to a deep wound. But Jesus died on the cross with the nails in His hands (John 19:30), and He was pierced in the side after His death (John 19:33-34). He never had a chance to develop scars while His body lay dead in His tomb, and when He was resurrected, His body was clearly eternal in nature (otherwise, His pumping blood would have poured out of His side and hands and killed Him a second time). Thus, His hands and side are eternally holey, not scarred.
